Dangerous drivers caught by unmarked HGV

Highways England footage shows trucker making a card payment while driving.

It’s an incredible piece of footage. SEE IT HERE

A HGV driver is filmed holding a mobile phone in one hand and a payment card in another while driving along the M40 motorway.

This would be appalling behaviour by any driver, using any vehicle.

But the driver’s in a HGV. A vehicle that’s capable of placing other road users at significant risk of serious injury and loss of life, if it’s not controlled properly.

He’s also a professional – expected to meet a higher standard of conduct because driving is his job.

There’s simply no excuse for using a hand held mobile phone while driving.

Professional drivers who engage in this behaviour risk their livelihoods. It’s a four week driving suspension from the traffic commissioner for any driver caught in a HGV the first time.

And that’s increased sharply if there are multiple or further offences.
